St. James, La. – One person is dead and three are seriously injured following a Sunday evening crash in which two vehicles struck each other head-on, according to Louisiana State Police.
A 2004 Jeep Liberty was traveling south on LA 18, and as it was approaching a curve in the road, the Liberty, driven by Julio Cuxum, entered the northbound lane and struck a 2004 Infinity I35 head-on.
The Infinity’s driver, 52-year-old Antonio Harrison, was not wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Cuxum, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales with serious injuries.
Two passengers in the Infinity, who were not wearing seat belts, were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.
Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash for Cuxum, and blood test results are pending. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Harrison.
The crash remains under investigation.
