Over 1,000 pounds of drugs seized in State Police traffic stops

During the past few weeks Louisiana State Troopers made several traffic stops which resulted in arrests and the seizure of nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana, several pounds of cocaine, nearly a kilo of MDMA, 8 ounces of codeine and two handguns.

Baton Rouge – During the past few weeks Louisiana State Troopers in Troop A and Troop I made several traffic stops which resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana, several pounds of cocaine, nearly a kilo of MDMA, 8 ounces of codeine and two handguns.

The first traffic stop occurred shortly before 12 p.m. on February 26, when a Trooper stopped a 2013 Lexus GS350 on I-10 eastbound, west of LA Hwy 415, in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. The driver of the Lexus, 31-year-old Christopher Lee-Sinc Jackson of Beaumont, TX, gave Troopers permission to search the vehicle, and upon searching the vehicle, Troopers discovered approximately 11 pounds of cocaine, 2 handguns and $10,000 hidden in the vehicle. Jackson was arrested for improper lane usage, possession with intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics, and illegal carrying of weapons. Jackson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The second traffic stop occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. on March 21, when a Trooper stopped a 2007 Honda Accord on I-10 eastbound, west of LA Hwy 415, in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. A State Police K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, and upon searching the Honda, Troopers discovered over 100 pounds of marijuana, approximately 1.1 kilos (11,000 dosage units) of MDMA (Ecstasy) and approximately 8 ounces of Codeine syrup. The driver of the Honda, 23-year-old Jamorrius R. Gibson of Hammond, was placed under arrest for improper lane usage, turning movements and required signals, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics, possession with intent to distribute Schedule V Narcotics, and driving under suspension. Gibson was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The third traffic stop in Troop A occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on March 23, when a Trooper stopped a 2007 Mercedes CL550 on I-10 eastbound, west of LA Hwy 415, in West Baton Rouge Parish for a traffic violation. The driver of the Mercedes, 34-year-old Martin Martinez of La Marque, TX, gave Troopers permission to search his vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle Troopers discovered approximately 244 pounds of marijuana. Martinez was arrested for improper lane usage and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics, and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

Shortly before 7:15 a.m. on March 24, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I stopped a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder on I-10 eastbound, west of Henderson, in St. Martin Parish for a traffic violation. Upon searching the vehicle Troopers discovered over 586 pounds of marijuana packaged in bundles. The driver of the Nissan, 25-year-old Juan Rangle of Brownsville, TX, was arrested for improper lane usage, no driver’s license, and possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics. Rangle was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.
