NEW ORLEANS -- Parents braved the cold temperatures Tuesday morning to try and get their children a spot at Morris Jeff Community School in Mid-City.
Parents said they are trying to get their kids registered in one of two pre-kindergarten classes, which they say are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“The school has so much to offer the community and the vision behind it impressed me the most,” said Paige Pecoul, a parent.
About 30 parents camped outside the school, many have been there since last night. The parents add the line to get in and register says a lot about the school.
“The school has gotten a great reputation in the small amount of time it’s been open,” said James Arnold. “It is just what the community needs, a community-based school for elementary… I really hope my son gets in because I really like the way they teach, the style that they teach and the people from the community that are attracted to the school,” James Arnold, a parent.
The school opened at 2239 Poydras St. in 2010 and as a charter in 2009.
