NEW ORLEANS -- Firefighters recovered the body of a woman while working a fire in Algiers, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The fire happened at a shotgun apartment before 5:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Eliza Street.
A neighbor reported the fire after hearing loud noises and seeing smoke.
The female victim, who was found about 8 feet from the door, hasn't been identified. According to firefighters, the blaze began in the front living room near the sofa, but they haven't released information on what may have sparked it.
The cause of death won't be released until an autopsy is completed.
