NEW ORLEANS – Three men were caught on surveillance video beating a victim with bottles in the Marigny early Sunday morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Around 4:45 a.m., a witness said he noticed three or four men standing outside of Friendly Bar on Chartres and Marigny streets.
One of the men approached the witness and tried to strike up a conversation. While the witness was trying to halt the conversation, he noticed the victim walking by and then watched all of the suspects begin to follow the victim, according to the NOPD.
Moments later, the witness and his girlfriend observed the subjects beating the victim with bottles at the corner of Chartres and Mandeville streets, police said.
Detectives located surveillance footage that showed three young black men striking the victim to the head with bottles. The subjects continued to beat the victim while he lay immobilized on the ground. The video also showed one of the suspects departing and then returning to kick the victim in the head as he lay on the ground.
The subjects are then seen walking away casually on Mandeville towards the river and then unknown.
The couple called 911, and police and EMS arrived shortly thereafter.
The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated for numerous lacerations and fractures to his face. The victim is in intensive care and will require cosmetic surgery, police said.
