CHALMETTE, La. - Deputies and state troopers are trying to identify the driver who killed a Chalmette woman in a hit and run crash early Sunday morning.

The woman, identified as 54-year-old Donna Landry of Chalmette, was found dead at about 5:30 a.m. on the westbound shoulder of West St. Bernard Highway near Madison Drive, according to deputies.

Deputies believe Landry was walking on the road when she was hit. A passing bicyclist found her body.

Deputies believe the incident likely happened after midnight and possibly in foggy conditions.

The vehicle involved was described as a late model Dodge pickup, possibly white in color. Deputies found debris from the car on the scene.

The westbound lanes of West St. Bernard Highway were closed for several blocks near the scene and traffic was re-routed during the investigation, which is now being handled by Louisiana State Police Troop B.

Anyone with information should call state police at 504-471-2775 or the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office at 504-271-2501.
