Hammond, La – Louisiana State Police say a Ponchatoula woman was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 12.
A State Police spokesman says just before 9 a.m. 27-year-old Crystal Joiner was struck and killed by vehicle two miles east of the LA 445/Robert exit on Interstate 12.
Police say Joiner was traveling east on I-12 with her boyfriend when they got into an argument. Joiner exited the vehicle and walked across the interstate and continued walking on the westbound shoulder. As her boyfriend followed her on foot, Joiner abruptly walked into the path of traffic. Joiner was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Joiner was pronounced dead at the scene. Police suspect Joiner was impaired at the time of the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
State Police say the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not injured. No charges are expected to be filed.
