NEW ORLEANS -- A possible underground cable fire near Carondelet and St. Joseph streets knocked out power to customers in portions of downtown for several hours.
According to Entergy, the power outage affected part of the Warehouse District and the Central Business District, with 1,500 without power for a period.
The power outage affected office buildings, street and traffic lights and streetcars in the area.
The International School of New Orleans at 727 Carondelet Street called an early dismissal at 11 a.m. due to the power outage. Good Shepherd School, at 353 Baronne St., also called an early dismissal.
Entergy reported that power had been restored to most customers in the area around 12:30 p.m.
