BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Hold that Twitter thought. If you are driving, a proposed state law would make it illegal for you to post status updates or anything else to social media websites.
The Senate transportation committee Wednesday approved a measure that would add accessing, reading and posting to social media sites, such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, to the no-no list while driving.
Supporters say they are trying to close a loophole in the law that prohibits texting while driving. Violators would face a traffic fine up to $75 for the first offense and up to $500 for subsequent violations.
The proposal by Republican Sen. Dale Erdey, of Livingston, heads to the full Senate for debate. It was approved without objection by the committee.
