NEW ORLEANS — A Raceland man pleaded guilty Wednesday to sexual exploitation of children and child pornography, possessing images of sexual victimization of children under the age of 12.

Johnny Smith, 43, could face up to 30 years in prison on the sexual exploitation count and a maximum of 20 years for the child pornography as well as a $250,000 fine and a possible life-time of supervised release, authorities said.

An investigation by the FBI led an obtainment of a search warrant for Smith’s home, authorities said.

In combing Smith’s house, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite said agents seized several items of electronic evidence which, after a review, showed recordings of him engaging in sexual activity with a 3-year-old girl between May 12 and June 23, 2013.

Additionally, agents found seven videos of 17 images showing children under the age of 12 participating in sexually explicit actions that Smith had saved to his computer, Polite said.

Sentencing has been set for May 14.
