ST. JAMES, La. - The St. James Parish district attorney says a grand jury has brought a first-degree murder charge in the death of a 12-year-old girl whose body was found after nearly a week of searching.
District Attorney Ricky Babin tells The Associated Press that John Celestine was indicted Tuesday in the death of Talaija (TUH-lay-juh) Dorsey. Celestine is the fiance of Dorsey's mother, Emma Dorsey.
Celestine had been held earlier on a charge of obstructing justice. He was booked Tuesday on the murder charge.
Dorsey was reported missing last Tuesday morning, when a friend stopped by her home to go to summer camp with her. Hundreds of volunteers joined police and sheriff's deputies in the search.
Sheriff Willy Martin found her body Sunday.
