KENTWOOD, La. -- A report of a tornado touchdown in Kentwood and another in Houma have come in as several strong lines of storms have blown through southeast Louisiana Wednesday morning.
On the northshore, Dawson Primes, the Emergency Director for Tangipahoa Parish reported a tornado around 3 a.m. that struck near Kentwood early Wednesday, moving a two-story house off of its base in the 5900 block of Peckerwoods Road.
"It picked the house up, turned it and pushed it back about 15 to 20 feet," said Primes."The outer walls if the house are all gone."
Primes said none of the four people inside were hurt, but that power lines and trees were also down in the area.
"Thank God, we're alive," said Stephanie Blauvelt who lives in the home and was in the house when when the storm lifted the structure.
Officials from the National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado hit Blauvelt's home, though they said it was a minor tornado that struck the house.
A tornado is believed to have touched down at the Houma-Terrebonne airport. A helicopter was overturned at the airport from the high winds. Windows were blown out at Village East Elementary, although officials say students will still have class.
