James Avery, best known for his role as disciplinarian but kind-hearted  'Uncle Phil' on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, has died at age 65.

There was no report of the cause of death.

CNN reported that 'Fresh Prince' co-star Alfonso Ribeiro tweeted news of Avery's passing.

"I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away," Riberio tweeted. "He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly.

Avery was a veteran of dozens of films and television shows, but he is best known for the role opposite Will Smith in the show that made Smith a breakout star.
