SLIDELL, La. – A 16-year-old boy was arrested by Slidell Police after allegedly attempting to kill his brother’s friend by slashing the victim with a 28-inch machete, according to Det. Daniel Seuzeneau, the Slidell Police spokesman.
Thursday evening, police were called to the 1700 block of Lynnwood Drive. When officers arrived on the scene, a 31-year-old victim was suffering from a “substantial laceration to his neck area,” and the 16-year-old was standing in the street holding a machete, Seuzeneau said.
“After an argument between the 16-year-old and the 31-year-old, for unknown reasons, the juvenile grabbed a machete and attacked the victim from behind,” Seuzeneau said. “It is presumed that the juvenile was trying to strike the victim in the neck, but instead, missed and chopped off the victim’s right ear lobe, narrowly missing the carotid artery.”
The 16-year-old told officers he was trying to kill the man, according to Slidell Police. With the help of his older brother, the teenager had moved to Slidell about a month earlier from Los Angeles, where he was allegedly part of the MS-13 gang.
The teenager was charged with attempted second-degree murder, and is being held in the Florida Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
The victim of the slashing remains in the hospital as he recovers from his injury.
