SLIDELL, La.- The Slidell Police Department credits good communication with school officials after the arrest of three Covington teens who brought a gun to a high school basketball game on Friday night.

Police arrested 18-year-old Steven Warren, 19-year-old Rico Bedford, and 18-year-old Terrence Bedford. All three are from Covington, La.

A Slidell Police spokesman says officials with the St. Tammany Parish School Board alerted police after overhearing students talk about a potential altercation at the Slidell High School versus Covington High School basketball game.

Police say they increased their presence at the game. This included additional plain-clothes officers. Police at the game received a tip that Warren was seen with a gun. Police also found out that Rico Bedford and Terrance Bedford were also in the possession of the same gun at some time.

Police questioned Warren and discovered a loaded handgun in a vehicle parked outside of the gym.

Police say none of three suspects are currently students. All three have been charged with carrying a firearm on school property at a school sponsored event.
