LAPLACE, La. -- St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the murder of a man in LaPlace.

According to police, on April 22, at 8:39 p.m., St. John Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the intersection of Yorktowne Drive and Fairway Drive in LaPlace because of a report of a man shot.

Investigators spoke to residents in the area who stated that after hearing several gun shots, they came out of their homes to find the victim lying on the ground in front of a home.

One neighbor reported that the glass door of her residence was shattered by a bullet and the exterior of her house had several bullet holes.

Deputies found the victim, 17-year-old Calvin Edmond, unresponsive on the ground, with a gunshot wound in the back of his head.

Edmond was transported to River Parish Hospital and then transferred to University Hospital.

Edmond died from his injuries Wednesday.

No other injuries were reported.
