THIBODAUX, La. -- It’s been a mystery for more than two months, but Tuesday night, investigators announced a suspect, Arthur Meads, is in custody in connection with a deadly hit and run in Thibodaux.

As the investigation unfolded into who was responsible for the crash, which killed 41-year-old Karey Authement, police kept coming back to Meads.

"(Meads) was confronted on several occassions and questioned. A polygraph was lined up for Mr. Meads, and when confronted with this new fact that he had to face, he actually confessed to the whole crash and the whole incident," said Trooper Evan Harrell with Louisiana State Police, Troop C.

Meads faces negligent homicide and felony hit and run charges. Authorities say he does not have a driver’s license.

According to investigators, the morning of Nov. 10, Meads turned in front of Authement, who was driving a motorcycle. Authement laid his bike down to avoid crashing, but officers say Meads drove over him, and then sped away.

For the next couple months, the search was on for a navy blue Z71 pickup truck.

The crash happened along Hwy. 3185 in broad daylight.

Because of that, police said they were able to get a good description of the vehicle from a couple of key witnesses.

Now, investigators are trying to learn why Meads decided to run.

"To do that to somebody and then leave the scene, and especially with the family wanting to know what happened and who did this to their loved one, that's where this really comes into play. That's where we have to hit the ground running and try and find these vehicles as quickly as we can," Harrell said.

While things played out longer than anyone wanted in this case, Wednesday, family members said they're relieved, and thankful to finally have some closure.
