EDGARD, La. – A 20-year-old man operating a four-wheeler stolen out of St. Charles Parish died in a single vehicle crash after striking a tree Tuesday evening, state police said.

Ronnie Brown of Luling exited a trailer park at Amp Circle in St. John Parish onto a grassy area south of the park when the four-wheeler struck a support pole to a utility pole. The 2013 Can-Am ATV turned clockwise and slammed into a tree, throwing Brown off who was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Brown died from his injuries after his transport to St. John Hospital, state police spokesman Evan Harrell said.

Police learned that Brown was using a stolen four-wheeler in their investigation, but the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the stolen vehicle case.

Police are waiting for routine toxicology tests, but have said that alcohol use is not suspected.
