SLIDELL, La. -- Police have arrested twenty-two-year-old Jamieon Chatman in connection with a shooting that left two people dead and others injured outside of a Slidell bar earlier this week.
Chatman, who is from Covington, was arrested Saturday morning in Vermilion Parish thanks in part to Crimestoppers tips.
Law enforcement officials said they expect more arrests in the case.
Chief Randy Smith says, “I cannot be more proud of our investigators identifying this individual and having him in custody so quickly. Although we have experienced an increase in violent criminal activity, Slidell is still a very safe place; it always has been and always will be.”
According to police, after a Christmas party let out at Shooters Social Bar, an argument erupted outside and Chatman opened fire, killing 22-year-old Errol Scott and 23-year-old Mark Womack.
A Slidell police spokesman said that despite earlier rumors to the contrary, neither Womack nor Scott is believed to have been Chatman's intended target.
Chatman will be booked on two counts of second-degree murder and six counts of attempted second-degree murder.
