HOUMA- A Terrebone Parish Sheriff’s deputy was knocked unconscious while trying to break up a fight that happened at the Krewe of Hercules Carnival Club Mardi Gras Party Friday night.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter says deputies arrested 20-year-old Dylan Joseph Yates of Houma. Yates was charged with disturbing the peace, battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

According to Sheriff Larpenter, the deputy was among eight deputies working a detail at the event in the 1400 block of West Tunnel Boulevard.

Sheriff Larpenter says during the party multiple fights occurred with as many as twenty people involved at a time. As the deputies attempted to break up the fights, one of the deputies was attacked and knocked unconscious. The deputy was taken to the hospital where he was treated for a concussion and a bruised jaw. The deputy was released from the hospital Saturday morning.

Sheriff Larpenter says the Krewe of Hercules organization is cooperating with the sheriff’s office to try to identify more suspects involved in the fights, and more arrests could be made.
