NEW ORLEANS -- An early morning two-alarm fire damaged a Central City church, Greater St. Matthew's Baptist, near the intersection of South Rampart and Euterpe streets.
According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the blaze broke out around 3 a.m. in the rear of the church.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the back of the church was engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control around 3:15 a.m.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. According to the fire department, no one was inside the church. No injuries have been reported.
