HOUMA — Officers arrested two people in connection with a Saturday night shooting that killed a Houma man. Neither suspect is believed to have pulled the trigger. One more suspect surrendered to police and authorities are looking for a fourth man.
Frederick M. Teague, 43, was shot in the stomach just before 11 p.m. Saturday near Eliza and Levron streets. He died of his wounds early the next morning at Terrebonne General Medical Center.
A third suspect in a fatal Eliza Street shooting turned himself in to officers Tuesday as detectives searched for a fourth still wanted in the homicide, authorities said.
Quintrell Welch, 20, 214 St. Paul St., Houma, was booked with first-degree murder.
Welch knew officers were searching for him in connection with the shooting and came to the Houma Police station on his own, said Lt. Jude McElroy, chief detective.
Officers have an arrest warrant for Justin Singleton, 19, 321 Prince Collins St., Houma, Tuesday, who remained at large Tuesday night. He is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder.
Crystal Ann Dill, 27, 1320 Bond St., Houma, was arrested early Sunday on a charge of principal to first-degree murder. Anthony Deshawn Howard, 21, 346 Columbus St., Apt. 6, Houma, was arrested Monday afternoon and booked with first-degree murder. If convicted, each faces life in prison.
McElroy said Dill and Howard were involved in the shooting but were not necessarily the perpetrators.
“You were there when it happened; you knew it happened and didn’t report it,” he said. “That’s where we get these charges from.”
On Monday, officers searched a Columbus Street home and found a weapon they suspect was used in the shooting, McElroy said.
The shooting was Terrebonne’s 15th homicide this year.
McElroy said Saturday’s shooting, like the majority of those logged this year, was drug related. The shots may have been fired over someone’s refusal to pay for crack-cocaine, he said.
“It’s all dope related,” McElroy said.
He said he expects officers to make at least one more arrest in the case, possibly two.
