Two dead in early morning crash in Gretna

GRETNA, La. -- Gretna police are currently investigating a deadly traffic crash that happened early Friday morning.

According to police, at around 3:30 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Gretna Boulevard, near Belle Chasse Highway, for a one car crash in which the vehicle struck an electrical tower and became engulfed in flames upon impact.

Police attempted to get two people out of the car, but were unsuccessful due to the flames and vehicle damage.

David Crockett Fire Department personnel extinguished the fire, at which time officers discovered the remains of the two occupants, whose identities have not been confirmed at this time.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, at this time.
