GRAMERCY, La. – Two people were killed when a car left the road and submerged in a bayou off of Airline Highway early Tuesday morning.
State Police said a 2009 Porsche was traveling south on Airline Highway around 1:30 a.m. when it ran off the roadway to the left, crossed the center median and then crossed over the northbound lanes of traffic, ending up in a bayou south of Blind River.
State Police identified the victims as 48-year-old Matthew P. Daigle of Lutcher and 54-year-old Terri R. Deslatte of Hester, La.
Police said an eyewitness called 911 to report the car running off the roadway. First responders located the submerged car several hours later.
They said both passengers sustained fatal injuries even though they were both wearing seatbelts.
