NEW ORLEANS - Saying that "Somebody has seen something," NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas implored the public to come forward with information in the killing of one-year-old Londyn Samuels.
"What kind of a man shoots at a woman carrying a child?" he asked.
Serpas and Mayor Mitch Landrieu said that Crimestoppers received only one tip on the killing, whereas a child's shooting death usually brings an avalanche of calls.
"This community has got to stand up and see this is completely and totally unacceptable," said Landrieu.
Samuels was walking with her babysitter, identified as 18-year-old Victoria Thomas, when shots rang out. Serpas said he believes that only two shots were fired and that one of them exited Thomas and killed the child.
The parents of Londyn Samuels, and others at a community gathering at Cafe Reconcile, where Londyn's mother worked, called the crime an "outrage."
The NOPD released some photos of the people they wish to talk to. The photos show shadowy figures walking down a street, but little else.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
