LAPLACE, La. - Two unrestrained juveniles were killed after the car in which they were riding slammed into a tree, State Police said Sunday.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on LA 44 just north of LA 54.
According to State Police, a Camaro driven by Daris Scott, 37, of LaPlace, was on LA 44 when the vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. Both Scott and a female front seat passenger were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries. However, the two children in the back seat, 15-year-old Daryell Johnson and 10-year-old Darquell Scott were not wearing belts and were pronounced dead on the scene.
State Police said speed is considered to be a factor. Blood was drawn from the driver to test for toxicology testing.
