Staff and wire reports

DARROW, La. -- The state Fire Marshal's Office is investigating an overnight mobile home fire that claim the lives of two brother, ages 4 and 6.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning said the boys' mother and two sisters were able to escape the flames. The girls are 10 and 12 years old. The fire moved quickly and trapped the family inside the trailer.  Two of the children were able to escape through a window.

"We believe we're dealing with an accidental fire," said Browning.

According to Browing, the Ascension Parish 5th Ward Volunteer Fire Dept. responded to a fire in the community of Darrow -- about 30 miles south of Baton Rouge -- shortly before midnight and found the structure fully involved in flames.

Browning said there were no working smoke alarms in the mobile home. "We're still trying to determine the exact cause of this fire," he said. 'We've narrowed the point of origin to living room, and we're looking at several accidental causes right now."

The names of the victims have not been released.
