NEW ORLEANS -- The Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office released a video of the fatal shooting of Wendell Allen during a drug raid.
The video is a key piece of evidence in former NOPD Officer Joshua Colclough's decision to plead guilty to manslaughter.
The choppy video, which was mounted on an unnamned NOPD officer, shows that Colclough was on a staircase well ahead of other officers when a single shot rang out. A bullet fired by Colclough hit Wendell Allen in the chest as he was standing at the top of the stairs. Allen was unarmed when he was shot.
At Colclough's guilty plea in August, his attorney Claude Kelly acknowledged that the video was a strong piece of evidence working against his client.
In a deal worked out with prosecutors and Allen's family, Colclough accepted a four-year prison sentence rather than go to trial for manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years.
