July 9: Esplanade and N. Roman
NEW ORLEANS – Friends Ashley Qualls will gather at the site where the social worker was slain early Tuesday.
At 7:30 p.m., a vigil will be held in the 7th Ward at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and North Roman Street.
Shortly after midnight Tuesday, witnesses overheard Qualls arguing with a group of men, according to the New Orleans Police Department. She was seen fighting with three men on bicycles when, moments later, gunfire erupted, witnesses said. The suspects fled on their bikes.
Qualls was found unresponsive on the neutral ground at the intersection. Emergency Medical Services personnel attempted to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
