BATON ROUGE, La. - Voters in Orleans, Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes will decide the fate of tolls on the Crescent City Connection this fall, after lawmakers passed legislation allowing the vote.
A change in the bill on Sunday added Plaquemines to those allowed to decide on the continuation of tolls, which are slated to expire at the end of the year.
If voters decide to keep the tolls in place, the money can't be used for the ferries that cross the river. The Department of Transportation is charged with finding a contractor to take over the ferry service.
