HARVEY, La. – A man shot in Harvey during a drug deal gone bad died at University Hospital Thursday, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. John Fortunato.

]Joey Bullock, 31, of Westwego, died as a result of injuries sustained when he was shot in the lower abdomen and crashed his van at the intersection of Crape Myrtle Drive and Tallow Tree Lane while trying to flee, said Fortunato.  Bullock was shot Nov. 14.

Police responded to a call reporting an accident, finding Bullock inside a van with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said.

“While en route to University,” said Fortunato, “Bullock admitted that he ‘got jacked up’ while attempting to purchase crack cocaine.” A JP detective was able to corroborate his story with witnesses, police said.

“While attempting to flee after being shot, Bullock apparently lost control of his vehicle and struck a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo before coming to rest near Crape Myrtle and Tallow Tree,” said Fortunato.

Bullock was pronounced dead around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to JP police at 504-364-5300 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Another person gone out of this world due to enslavement to narcotics, in this case crack-cocaine. Only 31 years old, so sad, and so preventable. It won't even help to track down the killer, there are many more waiting in his stead. The drug trade is a powerful thing, and the only way to take a stand against it and stay alive is to keep away from drugs.
