HARVEY, La. - Jefferson Parish deputies were on the scene of a quintuple shooting at a Harvey apartment complex early Monday morning, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Four men were arrested in association with the incident that occurred at Lapalco Apartments in the 2300 block of Lapalco Boulevard.

Around 4:18 a.m. in an unrelated incident, several deputies were at Helen Cox School, which is next door to the apartments. They heard the sound of tires screeching as a car drove out of the complex's parking lot and received subsequent reports of gunshots in the area.

The victims are two women and three children aged three and under, according to deputies. There were seven people in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Apparently the suspects knocked at the door and said they were police. The children were sleeping in the living room area when one of the adults answered the door and the suspects began shooting, according to the JPSO.

All of the victims were transported to University Hospital.

One of the toddlers, a 23-month-old boy, is in critical, but stable, condition due to multiple gunshot wounds, according to deputies.

The women are listed in stable condition and the two other toddlers, both girls, were transferred to Children's Hospital.

Deputies chased the suspect's car across the Crescent City Connection. As the car exited the down ramp near the Interstate-10/610 split, the suspects exited the vehicle and were apprehended.

A weapon was discovered inside of the vehicle and two more were found on the down ramp near some of the clothing the suspects were wearing, JPSO said.
