Bicyclist killed after being hit by car at Canal and Jeff Davis

NEW ORLEANS -- Police are investigating a fatality in Mid-City. New Orleans police confirmed the incident around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Canal Street and Jefferson Davis Parkway.

A 45-year-old male bicyclist was struck and killed by a car after 9 a.m. at the intersection, according to police.

A 51-year-old female driver of a blue Buick Park Avenue was driving north on Canal Street in the center lane, when she struck the bicyclist who was headed east on Jeff Davis.

EMS arrived and rendered aid to the man, but the attempts were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the investigation into the collision is on-going.
