SEABROOK, Texas (AP) — Emergency crews are responding to a fiery explosion at an industrial plant in the Houston area. There is no immediate word on any injuries.

Dispatcher Christine Peregrino of the Pasadena Fire Department says the explosion was reported shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Seabrook area.

She described the fire as "small" and "contained" but had no other details.

Black smoke from the plant near the Houston Ship Channel could be seen for miles.

Live TV coverage showed gaping holes in a tank at an industrial complex. Mangled, blackened equipment and debris could be seen nearby.

April Newberry, who lives a half-mile from the site, told KTRK-TV that she heard a loud boom, "all of the houses shook and everybody went out in the street to see what happened."
