NEW ORLEANS – The person found Oct. 10 in an Audubon Park lagoon has been identified as a homeless woman, the parish coroner said Monday.
Dr. Jeffrey Rouse identified the woman as 53-year-old Sheila Freedman.
“She was homeless and suffering from untreated mental illness in New Orleans,” said Rouse. “She arrived here from Massachusetts, having left behind a husband and two children approximately a year ago."
Police officials said they did not suspect any foul play in Freedman’s death. Rouse confirmed in his announcement the woman drowned.
