NEW ORLEANS – Police arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy along with two adults after officers said the two teens held up four people at gunpoint on Magazine Street Sunday night.

According to police, the two teens pulled out guns and approached a group of adults near the intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Magazine Street and demanded their wallets and purses. One man handed over his wallet and a woman let go of her purse but a second woman started screaming for help and the teens fled into a car that police say was occupied by 20-year-old Devante Claiborne and 29-year-old Devan Stevens.

Police said the car with the four men inside sped off and the victims called for help. Acting on the description given by the victims, the police found a car matching the description nearby and followed the suspects to the 2800 block of South Claiborne Avenue. All four of the occupants were arrested.

Devante Claiborne was previously arrested for burglary. Devan Stevens was arrested for a warrant.

“It’s more than disturbing to know that a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old were out last night looking for residents to rob at gunpoint. And it’s simply unfathomable that two adults were waiting in a car for the kids to complete the task, so they could drive off with them”, said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.
