NEW ORLEANS -- Police said a teenage girl was caught in the crossfire of a shooting in the Seventh Ward Saturday afternoon, shot in the leg while riding in a car with her mother.
The 14-year-old girl was riding as a passenger in her mother's vehicle when they approached the intersection of Frenchmen and N. Derbigny, at about 3:45 p.m., according to Officer Frank Robertson, a New Orleans police spokesman.
The girl and her mother reported hearing the sound of gunfire, but the woman kept driving. After traveling half a block, the teenager realized she had been shot in the leg, police said.
She was taken to the hospital in good condition.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
