WESTWEGO, La. - A 19-year-old Westwego man has been arrested in connection with the killing of an 81-year-old woman who died in her kitchen after her home was sprayed with bullets in February.
Sheriff Newell Normand announced the arrest of Isaac Smith, who was arrested in his home without incident and booked with one count of second-degree murder.
According to the sheriff's office, Smith showed up at Ochsner Medical Center on the westbank with a gunshot wound on the same night Doretha Richardson was killed in her home.
Deputies said Smith claimed he had been shot in St. Charles Parish and he was treated and released, but forensic evidence from the Richardson home identified Smith as having been at the site of the killing.
An arrest warrant was issued for Smith and he was located Tuesday just after noon.
