On Monday, Crimestoppers and the New Orleans Police Department held a press conference to provide updates on the murder. Crimestoppers doubled the reward money to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the murder of Joseph Massenburg.
"Please remember, this is about bringing Joseph's name to the mind of people in the city. Again, if you saw something, if you know something, no matter how insignificant it may seem to you, it could be the last thing we need to make the difference in this case," said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.
Massenburg was shot and killed while he was talking on his cell phone near the intersection of Eagle and Birch on April 1. He was in town to help install energy efficient light bulbs.
According to story in the Uptown Messenger, police are looking for a white, four-door SUV.
“Locating that vehicle is pivotal in this investigation,” Robert Barrere, a NOPD homicide detective, told the Uptown Messenger. “It would help us tremendously.”
On Sunday night, neighbors gathered at a vigil for the 18-year-old.
"In this case, we really need to remind people that Jospeh Massenburg died and we need to find a way to get his killer and hold his killer to justice," said Ronal Serpas.
The Carrollton Riverbend Neighborhood Association is working on plans to stop the violence in the area.
The latest on the investigation and the reward will be announced at 10:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Eagle Street.
