KENNER, La. – Police say that Margaret Sanchez, a suspect in the 2012 killing of Jaren Lockhart, a woman whose dismembered body was found on a Mississippi beach, has been arrested, according to Kenner Police.
Sanchez was arrested just after 7 a.m. Wednesday by Kenner Police, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Marshals at a home in Metairie. She has been charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping.
Lockhart was reported missing in June 2012. A dancer on Bourbon Street, she was last seen leaving a men's club. A few days later her body parts washed ashore in Bay St. Louis.
The case was taken over by Kenner Police in recent months because the sheriff's office in Mississippi felt that the killing had taken place in Louisiana.
In the weeks after the crime was committed, Sanchez and Terry Speaks were identified as suspects as they were the last ones seen with Lockhart on a surveillance video in the French Quarter.
Speaks, a convicted sex offender, is in federal prison in New York on another charge. He is due to get out in the fall.
