NEW ORLEANS - The NOPD has arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of an AmeriCorps volunteer in April.

Glen Emerson was picked up by police in an apartment complex in the 6900 block of Morrison Road in New Orleans East early Thursday, according to the NOPD.

Emerson is accused of participating in the killing of 18-year-old AmeriCorps volunteer Joseph Massenburg.

Emerson will be charged with one count of second-degree murder.

Massenburg's killing struck a chord in the community as the volunteer had come to the city to help in its continuing recovery.

Massenburg left his home in Chicago and moved to New Orleans for the sole purpose to help, but after visiting his usual eight to nine families a day, someone gunned him down as he walked down the street.
