MARRERO, La. – The boyfriend of a woman whose three-year-old son was found dead Wednesday was arrested as a suspect in the child’s death, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
After Desmond Brown was found dead, detectives interviewed his mother, Lakeshia Brown, who said the last time she saw her son alive is when her boyfriend, Timothy “Timmie” Reed, 34, had taken him to parades on Mardi Gras.
On Thursday afternoon, detectives located Reed hiding in a bathroom in a motel room on the Interstate-10 Service Road in New Orleans East.
Reed was taken into custody and booked as a fugitive from Jefferson Parish on two attachments, and in turn transferred to Jefferson Parish, JPSO said.
While being questioned, Reed admitted taking Desmond Brown with him on Mardi Gras and said he was with him at the time of his death, detectives said.
He made incriminating statements in regards to the child’s death, however, investigators do not believe his confessions were completely truthful.
He was booked into Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on one count of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, attempted aggravated arson, as well as attachments for domestic battery and non-payment of child support.
His previous criminal history includes arrests for first degree murder, aggravated rape of two juveniles, domestic violence and child abuse.
