NEW ORLEANS -- Within a three-hour time frame Wednesday night, police responded to three different reports of shootings in Central City, two of which were confirmed.

The latest shooting unfolded just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and S. Galvez Street.

Police say a 21-year-old man was shot several times in the chest and rushed from the scene to surgery. No word tonight on his condition.

Neighbors tell Eyewitness News that they heard anywhere from four to 12 gunshots ring out.

And then about eight blocks away, police say a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Magnolia.

That shooting happened just after 5 p.m.

An NOPD spokesman said it doesn't appear that the two Central City shootings are connected. However, both are still under investigation.

If you can help solve these cases, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
