COVINGTON, La. — A two-month investigation by Covington police into a December shootout at a Waffle House parking lot resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old man at his home on the Northshore.
Demarcus McDowell was arrested without incident, officers said, and will be charged with four counts of attempted murder and one count each of felon in possession of a firearm and illegal discharge of a weapon.
According to Covington Police spokesman Capt. Jack West, the search for a suspect began on Dec. 23, 2012 when officers responded to a parking lot shootout at the Waffle House located near La. highways 90 and 25.
When officers arrived, witnesses to the shooting already had fled. Once at the parking lot, officers found numerous 9 mm casings. The case was turned over to detectives, who uncovered enough witnesses to piece the events together.
Detectives concluded that a bar fight a night earlier spurred the shooting. Those involved ran into each other again at the Waffle House, where officers said McDowell pulled a pistol and began firing.
