Ex-law officers get jail time for wire fraud

NEW ORLEANS -- A former NOPD sergeant and a former JPSO deputy were sentenced Wednesday in federal court for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Kevin Guillot, 43, was sentenced to 11 months in prison and one year of supervised release. Daniel Spears, 40, received a six-month sentence and one year of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Guillot, a former NOPD sergeant, and Daniel G. Spears, a former JPSO deputy, were accused of falsifying police reports and giving false statements to try to collect insurance money on Guillot's personal pickup truck.

Also in the case, Anthony Venezia, 34, was sentenced to one-year probation and 50 hours of community services for one count of misprision of a felony.
