NEW ORLEANS -- Delores Scott has stage four lung cancer and her family fears she may go anytime now.
She is spending her last days in bed with a picture of her beloved grand daughter and a heavy heart.
"I'm trying to find out who killed my grandbaby," said Delores. "That's what I'm trying to find out."
Delores's granddaughter, 22-year-old Lanisha Scott, died from a gunshot wound on the streets of New Orleans.
Police say she was driving down Washington Avenue near Dryades in the early morning hours of April 13 when somebody sprayed her SUV with bullets, striking her in the head.
The grandmother said she and Lanisha talked about death during her struggle with cancer, but she never thought Lanisha would be the first to go.
"She was laying right here, she came here and start to cry, grandma, don't leave me, don't leave me, grandma don't leave me."
Lanisha's uncle James Scott said not knowing who killed her is tough on the whole family. She left behind a 3-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter.
"Every time I look at those children, I will feel that pain that they don't have no more momma," said James. "That hurts, just to know my niece is gone like this here. And, nobody saying nothing about it. She wasn't that bad of a person, Mr."
There are more than a dozen bullet holes in the Lexus SUV that Scott was driving when she was killed. Family members say with so many shots, somebody knows who did the shooting.
"I know somebody out there knows who shot her or what happened," said James. "On a big old street like Washington, I know somebody seen something. Tell who killed my baby. That's all I'm asking."
"I haven't heard anything about what happened or nothing," said Delores. "That's what I would like to try to find out what happened."
Crimestoppers' executive director says so far, they received two tips concerning the Lanisha Scott killing. If you have any information you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
