The legal troubles for convicted killer Telly Hankton have shifted from state court to federal court.
Wednesday at the request of federal authorities, the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office dropped a three-year-old murder charge against Hankton.
That case is now being absorbed into a much broader federal investigation of Hankton and the alleged criminal organization he operated in Central City.
While Hankton will remain locked up for a life sentence he's already serving, the news was much better for his co-defendant in the murder case. With the DA's move, Edward Allen was cleared of all charges against him.
