MANDEVILLE, La. – Police arrested six people between the ages of 18 and 25 for defacing public and private property with graffiti, according to the Mandeville Police Department.
The group was arrested on Wednesday after an ongoing investigation that started in December.
Public areas, such as Mandeville City Park behind Mandeville City Hall and the Mandeville Trailhead, were targeted, as well as private businesses, such as Winn Dixie Market Place and Walmart Neighborhood Market.
The tags consisted of various drawings, primarily the inscription “DERO” and “HAWG.”
Matthew Brook Deprang, 22, Christopher Anderson, 22, Chase Beruvides, 18, Cameron Oiler, 20, Alan Batchelder, 25, and Joshua Lukinovich, 19, were charged with criminal damage to property by defacing with graffiti. Deprang, Anderson and Lukinovich are from Covington, Beruvides and Batchelder are from Mandeville and Oiler is from Abita Springs.
The minimum penalty for the charge is a $500 fine and up to six months in jail, as well as restitution for costs of the damage and subsequent clean up.
Additional arrests are expected.
