NEW ORLEANS – A man was fatally shot inside his Algiers residence when a gunman was “startled by the arrival of a family who returned home,” according to the New Orleans Police Department.

A 33-year-old man was approached by three gunmen as he exited his home in the 6400 block of Brunswick Court around 9:45 p.m. Monday.

He was forced back into his residence, and the suspects demanded money, police said.

When the family arrived, a gunman opened fire and the victim was shot multiple times, according to the NOPD.

The man collapsed in the driveway and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Investigators are gathering information to identify the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
