KENNER, La. -- Detectives are trying to find the man responsible for a vicious armed robbery in Kenner. The brutal attack was caught on surveillance video.
"He had stitches on the forehead and his ear because he hit the gun with his ear," said the victim's wife, who asked Eyewitness News not to identify her.
Her husband is now recovering from a broken leg and multiple stitches.
The "Hope you feel better" balloons and flowers can't erase the terrifying moments that unfolded inside the Kenner check cashing business on Veterans Boulevard on Thursday morning.
Kenner police say a black man wearing a baseball cap, tan pants, sunglasses and yellow safety vest walked into the business just before 9 a.m. Armed with a gun he demanded cash, and the business owner tried to reach for his gun, but instead his assailant dragged and beat him.
"He called my husband names. Cursing at him, 'Give me money.' My husband said 'OK, let me go help you out' and he went to get his gun and he took my husband's gun and his gun. He tried to hit him with both of them and he fell on the ground and they were both fighting," said the victim's wife.
Surveillance footage shows the armed robber walking out of the store only to return minutes later to retrieve a cell phone he had dropped.
As the victim of this vicious attack returns to work with crutches in hand to serve the community he loves, this family can only hope the armed robber responsible is found.
"I want him to catch him because he always helps the people. He always helps the people. That's why the people like us," said the victim's wife.
Anyone who has information about this attack is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
